Arsenal won the second victory in the 2023/2024 Premier League continuation. In week 2, Arsenal managed to beat Crystal Palace with a narrow score of 1-0 at Selhurst Park, Tuesday (22/8/2023) WIB.

The game was initially tight during the first half. Arsenal, who played attacking from the start, were served by The Eagles with a tight defensive game.

A new goal was created in the 53rd minute, and even then through a penalty. Martin Odegaard who became the executioner managed to carry out his duties perfectly to create the only goal for the Gunners.

This victory ensured that Arsenal were in 3rd place for a while, strictly ahead of Man City and Brighton who also collected six points.

First round

Playing in front of the host public did not make Arsenal nervous. Gabriel Martinelli et al actually appeared confident and controlled the ball as long as possible.

Palace realized this and chose to play waiting in the penalty box itself. This method is quite difficult for Arsenal, who did not find a gap to attack.

The first opportunity even just came in the 29th minute. A curling shot from Eddie Nketiah almost rattled Palace's goal, had he not hit the post.

Then the second opportunity just arrived in the 42nd minute through Martin Odegaard's kick. This time the opportunity failed to become a goal thanks to a save from Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Second round

Palace's tight defense was tarnished early in the second half. The host's goal finally broke in the 53rd minute through Odegaard's penalty.

Before the penalty was given, Arsenal started the attack from a quick free-kick. Nketiah, who received the through ball, was then dropped by Johnstone in the forbidden box.

Arsenal then went down to ten men in the 67th minute. Takehiro Tomiyasu received a second yellow card, after previously the player got his first yellow card in the 60th minute.

Superior number of players does not necessarily make it easier for Palace to score goals. Even though the dominance of the game moved from camp, Arsenal's goal remained safe from conceding.

Do Arsenal have the goals for title challenge? This was a good win for Arsenal, whose players celebrated like they’d performed one of the great rearguards. And if they believe it, so much the better for them, because they play with a confidence, intensity and belief that is perpetuated by feelings of that ilk.

However, it’s still a stretch to see them winning the league, because they still lack a reliable scorer.
